Makalu
Trek Without Guide
There
is quite controversy about Makalu Trek whether it belongs to restricted region
trekking and there is need of special permit or general trek where TIMS and
conservation area entry permit is ok for trekking. But as far as we had operates
trekking in Makalu we had never issued special restricted permit till this
date. However we had find some other agencies they charge for special permit
for Makalu. It might be because of location of Makalu as it lies on
Shankhuwasabha District of Nepal where border to Tibet side, i.e. Kimathangka is
restricted region. Once can check online entry website of immigration
department, check
website here and select Shankhuwasabha on drop down menu to see the
itinerary of restricted region on Makalu it has clearly not mention Makalu Base
Camp under that categories. We never recommend to Makalu on your own cause area
is wild and less inhabited as well as less trekked.

as poorly marked, teahouses are almost temporary that open on season time only.
When one moves ahead Tashi Gaon it is almost zero inhabited area in term of
local people. Even local guides and porter they don’t trek on their own without
being accompanied by local crew on camping. Satellite Phone is the one and only
way for communication so better bring some GPS and other satellite trackers for
your own safety. Makalu sound similar to Manaslu which belong to restricted
region and one cannot go for Manaslu
Trek Without Guide, it might be the reason why people are confused about
Makalu Trek Without Guide.
