Mount Makalu is located on Shankhuwasabha District of Nepal, which lies adjacent to Kanchenjunga. For Makalu Base Camp Trek one need to be in Khadbari and start a trek from there. Now the question might arise how to reach the start point of trek. Similar to Kanchenjunga Trek there is option of both flight and drive from Kathmandu. However there is no need of two separate flights from Kathmandu to Khadbari as one single flight from Kathmandu can shift trekkers to Khadbari. Actually flight from Kathmandu is the easiest way to start Makalu Base Camp Trekking.

Apart from flight there is option of drive too however because of condition of road and vehicle it is always recommended to catch a flight instead of drive. However most of the people they take a local jeep drive from Khadbari to Num to reduce a walking day on motor able road at lower elevation. This one is recommended, i.e. local jeep ride after flight from Kathmandu to Khadbari. Although recently black topped runway on Khadbari Airport at Makalu it is still worth and able to land big domestic aircraft.
